ABOUT SARA:
Currently interning at Amazing Heart Farm for the 2012 Season, Sara’s interest in food issues began several years ago while traveling abroad and volunteering for Heifer International. Her passion for farming and food justice led her to question many of the cultural norms and assumptions we make about the food we eat. After reflecting on how eating is deeply intertwined in social, political, and environmental realities, she chose to adopt a plant-based vegan lifestyle. More importantly for her, however, are the conversations that we have about food, which reflect how we relate to one another and to the earth. Food is so a part of our daily lives yet it is frequently masked by our lifelong habits and perceptions. It was this realization that inspired this discussion-based series, which will seek to bring awareness to food, nutrition, and ethics by focusing on the many benefits of plant-based foods in promoting holistic well-being and embracing our values of compassion and care.

Thanks for the feedback, Mischi. I agree. Those are all topics worth exploring. This piece is actually an excerpt from a book I am working on, about resuming Jewish life in Europe. It’s semi-autobiographical.
